A clipping agency is a company that gets your content seen on short-form video by paying a network of independent creators, called clippers, to cut it into clips and post them on their own TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and X accounts. The agency writes the brief, recruits and manages the clippers, reviews every clip, checks that the views are real and pays the clippers per 1,000 verified views. You set the budget and pay for views, not for hours, posts or a monthly retainer.

That's the whole idea in one paragraph. The rest of this guide covers how an agency is different from an editor or an influencer agency, what it costs, what a good one looks like, and when you're better off running a campaign yourself.

What does a clipping agency do?

A clipping agency runs a clipping campaign for you from start to finish. If you're new to the model, our guide to what a clipping campaign is explains it in full. The agency's part looks like this:

  1. Brief. It works out with you what clippers should cut, what every post must include (a sound, a link, a hashtag, a caption line) and what's off limits. Our brief guide shows what goes in one.
  2. Network. It sends the brief to clippers it already works with, instead of you recruiting them one at a time.
  3. Review. Someone checks each clip against the brief before it can earn. Clips that miss the brief are rejected and their views never count.
  4. Verification. Views are checked against platform data, and bot or farmed views are removed before anyone is paid.
  5. Payment. Clippers are paid from your campaign budget for the verified views their clips earn.
  6. Reporting. You see clips, views and spend while the campaign runs, so the angles that work can be pushed while there's budget left.

The clips go out on the clippers' accounts, not yours. That's the point: hundreds of different accounts, each with its own audience, give the algorithm hundreds of separate chances to pick your content up.

Clipping agency vs other kinds of agency

"Clipping agency" gets confused with a few other things. Here's how they differ.

There's one more meaning to rule out: press clipping or media monitoring services track mentions of your brand in the news. They're also sometimes called clipping agencies, but they have nothing to do with short-form video.

Who hires a clipping agency?

Anyone with content that people will stop scrolling for, and a reason to reach a lot of people quickly:

  • Musicians and labels pushing a single, so the sound spreads across thousands of videos (music clipping).
  • Podcasts turning long episodes into moments that bring listeners back to the full show (podcast clipping).
  • Apps and startups launching a product, where every clip carries the app name and a download link (app launch clipping).
  • Creators and public figures who already have hours of footage and want it working on accounts other than their own.
  • Brands with launches, demos or campaigns to put in front of a younger, short-form audience.

How much does a clipping agency cost?

Most clipping agencies price on views, not time. You agree a campaign budget and a rate per 1,000 verified views, and the budget is paid out to clippers as verified views come in. The agency's own fee sits on top of that budget. Some agencies also charge a monthly retainer or a setup fee, so ask before you sign.

You'll often see campaigns compared on effective CPM: the campaign budget divided by the verified views it bought, times 1,000. It's a useful number, but the lowest rate rarely makes the best campaign. The rate decides which clippers turn up: the best clippers choose the campaigns that pay well, so a rate set too low gets you fewer, weaker clips and less reach. Judge a campaign on what it delivered: how many clips, how many creators, how many views and what they led to. Two of our own campaigns as examples:

  • The Mischief app: 13,070,000 verified views from 1,933 clips by 400+ creators. Five clips crossed 1M views each, and the launch drove 20,000 user signups (case study).
  • Cedric Gervais, "Gotta Be": 16.8 million views and 3.1 million engagements from 1,629 videos (case study).

Clipping can move more than views. A three-week music campaign put a dance track in 500 creator videos with 15.1 million views, and the track reached the Beatport Indie Dance top 10 (case study).

For what moves the rate up or down and what different budgets buy, see how much a clipping agency costs and our pricing page.

What makes a good clipping agency?

The model is simple, so the difference between agencies is in the parts you can't see from the outside. A good one will tell you, before you pay anything:

  • How views are verified, and that bot or farmed views are removed before billing.
  • Who reviews the clips, and that every clip is reviewed, not a sample.
  • Every fee, in writing, before launch.
  • Where you can watch results while the campaign is live.
  • A past campaign clip by clip, not just a total.

Walk away from anyone who guarantees views. Nobody controls the algorithm, and a guarantee usually means the views are being bought. Our guide on how to choose a clipping agency has nine questions to ask, and our comparison of the best clipping agencies shows how the main agencies price and what they've published.

Clipping agency or do it yourself?

You don't need an agency to run a clipping campaign. Platforms such as Try Shoot let you post a campaign, set the rate and budget, and review clips yourself. That route costs less and gives you full control, but you write the brief, review every submission and decide what to scale.

An agency makes sense when:

  • you'd rather not review hundreds of clips a week yourself,
  • brand safety matters enough that you want a team checking every post,
  • the campaign is tied to a release or launch date and has to work first time,
  • or you want to scale past a test into a monthly programme.

Try Shoot's guide to clipping agency vs platform costs compares the two routes in more detail.

How Clip Mansion works

Clip Mansion is a clipping agency based in London, working with brands, artists, apps and startups in the US, UK and worldwide. Our team and a network of 12,000+ creators post your content across TikTok, Reels and Shorts, and you pay only for views we can verify.

  • Billing: a set campaign budget, paid to creators per 1,000 verified views, plus one agency fee agreed before launch. No retainers and no lock-ins.
  • Size: campaigns from $1,500 total budget: Launch ($1,500–$5,000), Growth ($5,000–$25,000 a month) and Scale ($25,000 to $50,000+ a month, with a dedicated team).
  • Clipper pay: we set rates that attract the best clippers. Higher pay means top clippers prioritise your campaign, which means better clips and more saturation.
  • Review and verification: every clip is reviewed by hand, and views are screened for bots on Try Shoot, where Clip Mansion is a verified agency.
  • Speed: campaigns go live within 48 hours of the brief and budget being agreed, and we reply to briefs within 12 hours.
  • Proof: 13,070,000 verified views, 1,933 clips and 400+ creators on one app launch, with five clips past 1M views each. See our results.

If you have something worth clipping, tell us about it and we'll come back with a plan.

FAQ

A clipping agency is a company that pays a network of independent creators to cut your content into short clips and post them on their own TikTok, Reels, Shorts and X accounts. It writes the brief, reviews the clips, verifies the views and pays the creators per 1,000 verified views from a budget you set.

Clipping means taking a longer piece of content, such as a podcast, livestream, song, interview or product demo, and cutting it into short vertical clips for social platforms. In a clipping campaign, many different creators post those clips on their own accounts and are paid for the views they earn.

Clipping agencies charge a fee for running the campaign on top of the budget that goes to creators. Some add a monthly retainer or a setup fee. Clip Mansion bills the campaign budget plus one agency fee, agreed before launch, with no retainer.

It's worth it when you have content people will watch, a goal that needs reach (a release, a launch, a show), and no time to manage hundreds of creators yourself. Judge it on what it delivers (clips, creators, verified views and outcomes) and on whether the views are verified. The Mischief app launch reached 13,070,000 verified views from 1,933 clips by 400+ creators and drove 20,000 user signups.

A platform, such as Try Shoot, gives you the tools to post a campaign and pay clippers, and you do the managing. An agency does the managing for you: the brief, the review, the verification and the decisions about what to scale.

Many are, but the industry is young and quality varies. A legitimate clipping agency explains how it verifies views, reviews every clip, states all of its fees before you start, and can show a past campaign clip by clip. Be wary of guaranteed view counts.
